A complete garden transformation, built for comfort and ease.
This back garden in Midlothian was a full rip-out and redesign for an older couple’s forever home. The brief was to create a clean, low-maintenance layout with defined zones for planting, seating, and relaxing. Using durable, sharp looking materials and a multi-level layout, we transformed the space into something structured, stylish, and easy to enjoy year-round.
Project Details & Materials
This garden in Midlothian was a full rip-out and redesign. The client wanted a clean layout with defined zones for seating and planting, using durable materials that look sharp and are easy to maintain. We designed a multi-level garden with raised beds and a sleek slate patio to provide structure and flow. The aim was to create a space that felt spacious, low-maintenance, and usable year-round, perfect for all of the family.
Indian Sandstone paving for the patio and paths
Treated timber sleepers to form raised flower beds
Premium-grade turf for a lush, even lawn
Decorative gravel and edging blocks to complete the look
New full-perimeter timber fencing
This transformation took just 19 days to complete, working through heavy rain and unpredictable weather throughout. We reused and reshaped the original ground levels where possible to reduce waste, and carefully managed the gradient to create a functional, multi-level layout. The result is a clean, accessible garden with timeless structure and minimal upkeep—crafted to last, no matter the season.
Bespoke block steps and a decorative wall structure were added to break up the slope and give the garden levels. This sharp-edged layout enhances flow, safety, and visual interest across the space.
A bird’s-eye view of the finished garden reveals the full scope of the transformation—new fencing, raised beds, patio zones, and fresh turf all working together in a clean, multi-level design tailored to the client’s lifestyle.
This elevated section features freshly laid premium turf framed by sleeper borders. It adds height variation and a soft green focal point, complementing the structured lines of the paving and fence.
A clean, practical step leads from the back door onto the newly laid Indian sandstone patio. The textured finish and mixed tones add a premium feel while providing a safe, slip-resistant surface underfoot.
This highlights the smooth sandstone patio meeting a curved raised bed, built with treated sleepers and finished with a neat gravel border. It adds definition to the layout while blending structure and softness into the overall design.
A brand new timber fence surrounds the entire garden, providing privacy, security, and a natural backdrop for the freshly planted beds. The smooth flow of the curved line adds a modern touch while clearly defining the space.
