A full redesign from the ground up, using premium materials and a layout to match the client’s lifestyle.

This project was all about turning a blank canvas into a clean, low-maintenance garden that works year-round. Featuring raised beds, fresh turf, porcelain paving, and detailed timberwork — it’s one of our favourites.

Project Details & Materials

This garden in Midlothian was a full rip-out and redesign. The client wanted a clean layout with defined zones for seating and planting, using durable materials that look sharp and are easy to maintain. We designed a multi-level garden with raised beds and a sleek slate patio to provide structure and flow. The aim was to create a space that felt spacious, low-maintenance, and usable year-round, perfect for all of the family.

Materials Used

Slate for the patio and paths

Treated timber sleepers to form raised flower beds

Premium-grade turf for a lush, even lawn

Decorative gravel and edging blocks to complete the look

Our Notes

This particular project took just under 20 days to complete, despite frequent rain throughout. To minimise waste and disruption, we kept most of the existing soil on-site, regrading and redistributing it to shape the multi-level layout rather than removing it. The result is a well-balanced garden that feels natural and efficient, making the most of the original ground levels with minimal environmental impact.

Slate Patio & Planting Zone

A clean-cut slate patio creates the perfect contrast against the vibrant planting beds. This area offers a practical, low-maintenance surface while adding structure and balance to the overall garden design.

Tiered Garden with Drainage

A raised sleeper border helps retain soil on the sloped lawn while enhancing drainage and preventing erosion. This multi-level approach makes the most of uneven ground without compromising on aesthetics.
